BECOME A MOUNTAIN FORAGER

Learn 7 edible wild plant and mushroom species for the Mountain West.

I’m building my first Year of Plenty course for people who want to become more capable in mountain country and more resilient through foraged wild food.

If you hike, hunt, fish, camp, forage, or spend time scouting in the mountains, this course is for you.

Because once you know what to look for, you start seeing the hidden wild gardens that most people walk right past.

Most people walk right past food in the mountains.

I used to think about mountain country mostly in terms of the obvious things.

Trails.

Pretty views.

Animals.

Creeks and lakes.

Camp spots.

But the more time I spent outside, the more I realized something important:

There was food all around me that I did not know how to recognize yet.

Berries growing along the trail.

Mushrooms pushing up through the dirt.

Useful plants growing in places I had walked past a hundred times.

And once you start noticing those things, the mountains change.

You are not just moving through the landscape like an observer anymore.

You become a participant.

You start paying attention.

You start learning what grows where.

You start building resilient food skills that no one can take from you.

That is the idea behind MOUNTAIN FORAGER.

This is not a giant field guide.

MOUNTAIN FORAGER: Volume 1 is focused on 7 useful edible wild plant and mushroom species found in the Mountain West.

The goal is not to overwhelm you with hundreds of random species.

And it is not “just buy a field guide and hope for the best.”

The goal is to help you build a practical foundation with a handful of ancient foods that are actually worth knowing.

You’ll learn how to recognize them, where they tend to grow, when to look for them, how to identify them carefully, how to harvest with future seasons in mind, and how to use them once you bring them home or back to camp.

Why I’m building this

Year of Plenty is about building more resilient humans through foraging, hunting, homesteading, traditional foodways, nutrition, and real food skills.

MOUNTAIN FORAGER is the first course I’m building under that umbrella because I believe these skills still matter.

The course is currently in production.
